He graduated in Modern Languages (English and German) and obtained a PhD at the University of Barcelona. He also studied Germanistics at the University of Munich and took the MS courses in Applied Linguistics at the University of Georgetown, Washington D.C.
He was the Head of the Official School of Languages in Barcelona and a lecturer at the University of Barcelona and the Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona. He later became a full professor at the English Department at the University of Murcia, where he is still teaching. He has spent several research stays in England, USA and Canada, and has also lectured in various countries and universities.
His research and teaching have centred on foreign language teaching and learning, cognitive processes in language learning, lexicology, monolingual and bilingual (English-Spanish) lexicography and corpus linguistics (corpus design and compilation and automatic disambiguation of meanings).
